Remarkable progress has been made on the Nairobi Expressway since commencement of its construction with the overall progress now standing at 59.8 per cent. Various actions continue to be taken to improve traffic flow, especially along the JKIA – Mlolongo section.
In the meantime the Kenya National Highways Authority has partnered with Kenya Railways to introduce additional wagons effective today to offload travelers from the road. The Kenya railways Management has undertaken to secure all vehicles parked at Syokimau Train Station as the vehicle owners transits to the train enroute to the Central Business District.
The sections along the road, where traffic congestion could still be experienced, include areas currently under intervention as indicated below:
1. Installation of steel and concrete hoarding at the Gateway Mall area
2. Improvement of directional U-turns at various points e.g. at k2+300, Mlolongo and blocking of an illegal U-turn at K3 + 300
3. Securing of the sites through excavation so that vehicles do not drive through construction sites
4. Continuous watering of the construction sites to reduce the rise of dust
5. Widening the angles at diversion points e.g. at Allpack area to ease vehicle movement
6. Erection of additional safety signs along the road
7. Improvement of directional U-turns at various points e.g. at k2+300, Mlolongo and blocking of an illegal U-turn at K3 + 300
8. Securing of the sites through excavation so that vehicles do not drive through construction sites
9. Continuous watering of the construction sites to reduce the rise of dust
10.Widening the angles at diversion points e.g. at Allpack area to ease vehicle movement
