MUTUA TO BUILD AIRPORT AT NEW MACHAKOS TOWN

Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua approached Nema for approval to build an airport in Machakos town to boost regional trade and tourism. Located at Muvuti-Kiima-Kimwe Ward within the proposed New Machakos town, the Machakos Airport will sit on 104 hectares – about 8.5% of the planned 892-hectare town. The project involves construction of a taxiway, passenger and presidential terminals, as well as a 1.35km runway, and other amenities such as link roads and a water treatment plant. “The runway will be 1350m long and 45m wide. At both ends of the runway, a stop way will be constructed. The runway shoulders will be 7.5m wide and a Runway End Safety Area (RESA) of 180m length and 160m width will be provided at both ends of the runway,” Machakos says in its project report. The Machakos Airport’s passenger terminal, the airfield’s main terminal, will comprise 10 check-in counters, six security check points, 10 gates, six passenger boarding bridges, and immigration counters for arrival...

THE NAIROBI EXPRESSWAY UPDATES!

Remarkable progress has been made on the Nairobi Expressway since commencement of its construction with the overall progress now standing at 59.8 per cent. Various actions continue to be taken to improve traffic flow, especially along the JKIA – Mlolongo section.



In the meantime the Kenya National Highways Authority has partnered with Kenya Railways to introduce additional wagons effective today to offload travelers from the road. The Kenya railways Management has undertaken to secure all vehicles parked at Syokimau Train Station as the vehicle owners transits to the train enroute to the Central Business District.



The sections along the road, where traffic congestion could still be experienced, include areas currently under intervention as indicated below:



1. Installation of steel and concrete hoarding at the Gateway Mall area

2. Improvement of directional U-turns at various points e.g. at k2+300, Mlolongo and blocking of an illegal U-turn at K3 + 300

3. Securing of the sites through excavation so that vehicles do not drive through construction sites

4. Continuous watering of the construction sites to reduce the rise of dust

5. Widening the angles at diversion points e.g. at Allpack area to ease vehicle movement

6. Erection of additional safety signs along the road

7. Improvement of directional U-turns at various points e.g. at k2+300, Mlolongo and blocking of an illegal U-turn at K3 + 300

8. Securing of the sites through excavation so that vehicles do not drive through construction sites

9. Continuous watering of the construction sites to reduce the rise of dust

10.Widening the angles at diversion points e.g. at Allpack area to ease vehicle movement

President Uhuru and DP William Ruto Arrive In Parliament Buildings For National Prayer Breakfast.

 President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto are set to share a table for the first time after months of avoiding each other. The two leaders, who have fallen out over 2022 succession politics and the Building Bridges Initiative, are expected to grace the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday. The annual event, in which political leaders, including ODM leader Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), have been invited, will take place at Parliament Buildings. Uhuru and Ruto have met twice face to face this year – on February 15 during the burial of former Cabinet minister Simeon Nyachae in Kisii and February 25 during a Cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi. The two no longer read from the same script in the running of government affairs. Helicopter crashes after flying H.E. Raila Odinga.

 The chopper that had dropped H.E. Raila Amollo Odinga crashed as it took off in Siaya County. According to Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango, the helicopter, Bell 407 registration 5Y-PSM, had dropped Raila and four others at the venue and was trying to create space for other choppers when it crashed. He said the ODM leader was safe and had left the plane by the time of the incident. “The former PM is safe following an incident in which a chopper that had flown him from Kisumu to Gem in Siaya County crashed shortly after dropping him and his entourage of four people,” Onyango said in a statement. Onyango said the pilot, and those who were on board escaped with minor injuries. According to the chopper’s pilot Julius Mwambanga, the helicopter crashed as he tried to take off after dropping Raila who had accompanied President Kenyatta to the area to commission various projects.
