MUTUA TO BUILD AIRPORT AT NEW MACHAKOS TOWN

Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua approached Nema for approval to build an airport in Machakos town to boost regional trade and tourism. Located at Muvuti-Kiima-Kimwe Ward within the proposed New Machakos town, the Machakos Airport will sit on 104 hectares – about 8.5% of the planned 892-hectare town. The project involves construction of a taxiway, passenger and presidential terminals, as well as a 1.35km runway, and other amenities such as link roads and a water treatment plant. “The runway will be 1350m long and 45m wide. At both ends of the runway, a stop way will be constructed. The runway shoulders will be 7.5m wide and a Runway End Safety Area (RESA) of 180m length and 160m width will be provided at both ends of the runway,” Machakos says in its project report. The Machakos Airport’s passenger terminal, the airfield’s main terminal, will comprise 10 check-in counters, six security check points, 10 gates, six passenger boarding bridges, and immigration counters for arrival

See what the Kenyan government is doing along Mau Mau Road

 The government is planning to build four museums on the upcoming Mau Mau road, which links four central Kenya counties, in honour of independence war veterans.


The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), which is supervising the 540km road project, has written to stakeholders asking them to identify suitable sites for the museums.



KeNHA in partnership with the National Musuems of Kenya and the Gikuyu Council of Elders is expected to erect a museum in each of the four counties where Mau Mau Road passes.


The roads agency has formed committees from the respective counties – Murang’a, Nyeri, Kiambu, and Nyandarua – to conduct public participation about the project.


The committes are expected to identify suitable locations for the museum based on availability of adequate land and status of ownership of the property.


They are also tasked with coming up with appropriate names for the museums taking into consideration names of prominent Mau Mau war veterans from the respective counties.


On completion, the museums will showcase Mau Mau artefacts as part of efforts to enlighten the current and future generations about the independence struggle.


The Sh30bn Mau Mau road, which is set for completion in May next year, starts at Gataka in Limuru, and then traverses through Kamahindu and Kibichoi in Kiambu County before negotiating its way through Kinyona in Kigumo and Ichichi in Kangema, Murang’a County.


The road then passes through tens of market centres in Murang’a and Nyeri before ending at Njengu in Nyeri County where it joins the Nyeri-Nyahururu road.


The road seeks to honour Mau Mau fighters who used the route as they went in and out of the forest to fight colonialists, according to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia.


“The Mau Mau road traces the routes that were used for transport and logistics by the Mau Mau freedom fighters,” Mr Macharia said during a tour of the project on December 20.


“(The road) will be done in honour of the freedom fighters who made huge sacrifices for the liberation of this country,” he added.

President Uhuru and DP William Ruto Arrive In Parliament Buildings For National Prayer Breakfast.

 President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy President William Ruto are set to share a table for the first time after months of avoiding each other. The two leaders, who have fallen out over 2022 succession politics and the Building Bridges Initiative, are expected to grace the National Prayer Breakfast on Thursday. The annual event, in which political leaders, including ODM leader Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi (ANC) and Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), have been invited, will take place at Parliament Buildings. Helicopter crashes after flying H.E. Raila Odinga.

 The chopper that had dropped H.E. Raila Amollo Odinga crashed as it took off in Siaya County. According to Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango, the helicopter, Bell 407 registration 5Y-PSM, had dropped Raila and four others at the venue and was trying to create space for other choppers when it crashed. He said the ODM leader was safe and had left the plane by the time of the incident. “The former PM is safe following an incident in which a chopper that had flown him from Kisumu to Gem in Siaya County crashed shortly after dropping him and his entourage of four people,” Onyango said in a statement. Onyango said the pilot, and those who were on board escaped with minor injuries. According to the chopper’s pilot Julius Mwambanga, the helicopter crashed as he tried to take off after dropping Raila who had accompanied President Kenyatta to the area to commission various projects.
