MUTUA TO BUILD AIRPORT AT NEW MACHAKOS TOWN

Machakos County Governor Dr. Alfred Mutua approached Nema for approval to build an airport in Machakos town to boost regional trade and tourism. Located at Muvuti-Kiima-Kimwe Ward within the proposed New Machakos town, the Machakos Airport will sit on 104 hectares – about 8.5% of the planned 892-hectare town. The project involves construction of a taxiway, passenger and presidential terminals, as well as a 1.35km runway, and other amenities such as link roads and a water treatment plant. “The runway will be 1350m long and 45m wide. At both ends of the runway, a stop way will be constructed. The runway shoulders will be 7.5m wide and a Runway End Safety Area (RESA) of 180m length and 160m width will be provided at both ends of the runway,” Machakos says in its project report. The Machakos Airport’s passenger terminal, the airfield’s main terminal, will comprise 10 check-in counters, six security check points, 10 gates, six passenger boarding bridges, and immigration counters for arrival

Safaricom Wins Ethiopian Operating Licence.

Ethiopia's telecommunications regulator awarded one operating licence to a consortium led by Kenya's Safaricom Vodafone and Japan's Sumitomo Brook Taye, a senior adviser at the finance ministry, said on Saturday. The consortium, which includes Vodacom and British development finance agency CDC Group, paid $850 million for the licence, Brook said. South Africa's MTN had also bid for a licence. Africa's second-most populous country is hoping that the opening of one of the world's last major closed telecoms markets will create millions of online job opportunities. The awarding of the new licence marks the "beginning of a new era in our country," the Ethiopian Communications Authority said on Twitter. As as as the licence fee, the consortium plans to invest up to $8.5 billion in infrastructure among other areas, Brook said, adding that it was expected to create up to one and a half million jobs. Azpilicueta Red Card Overturned!

Chelsea Captain Cesar Azpilicueta has had the red card given to him on the final game against Aston Villa overturned after an appeal. The Chelsea defender was sent off after what appeared to be violent conduct against Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish in the face in the 89th minute. Azpilicueta, 31 will no longer face a three match ban at the start of next season. Chelsea secured a top four spot and Champions League qualification despite the 2-1 defeat at Villa Park. This was thanks to Leicester’s 2-4 defeat to Tottenham Hotspurs. Chelsea now head into the Champions League final against Premier League Champions Manchester City on Saturday.

Kenyan man charged with stealing woman's underpants worth Ksh 200,000.

 A man stealing a woman's underpants?  Well that sounds odd but that is exactly what transpired along Moi Avenue in Nairobi, Kenya on March 26, 2021. Caleb Onyango Otieno stole the items belonging to Lilian Mwangi  and was arraigned in court on Tueday May 25, 2021. The items, according to court papers, include 48 pieces of lingerie, 36 pieces of underwear, 36 pieces of pyjamas, 22 pieces of cotton robes, and 6 pieces of silk robes. Otieno, appearing before the Milimani Law Courts, pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted a cash bail of Ksh.50, 000 or a bond of Ksh.100, 000. The case was set for mention on June 4, 2021.
